High John the Conqueror (small/medium sizes; priced per root)
High John the Conqueror is probably the most notable root associated with Hoodoo & Conjure. Considered to be “THE root” when seeking self-mastery and success, the lore behind this root’s spirit is extensive and showcases its limitless reach from a spiritual standpoint.
While rumored to be a fictional character, John the Conqueror (sometimes Conker, or Conqueroo) was considered to be a hero in African folklore. Possessing strong intellect and wit, it’s said that John gave his name to three roots (the others being Trillium and Galangal; Low and Little respectively). Christened with his namesake, High John is said to not only contain John the Conqueror’s cleverness but also his power.
Working with High John the Conqueror bestows not only this hero’s power to the worker, but also the wit to overcome and surmount what seems impassible. As a specimen, this particular root is meant to be kept on altars, rather than carried in the purse or pocket. With all roots, its ideal to make regular offerings of either alcohol (such as rum or whiskey) or condition oils to keep them “working”.
These smaller roots are best suited for mojo bags or kept as pocket pieces.
