Sun in Taurus: Contemplation, Accumulation

The last embers of the Ram cool as the Sun settles into Taurus. From April 19 to May 20th, the focus shifts from defining the self through action to seeking material acquisition. Here, the Bull’s steadfastness empowers the pursuit life’s niceties. Security, both physical and emotional, also take center stage which in these times are much welcomed.

The Sun’s transit through Taurus often aligns with a slow-down of sorts, and it makes sense given the drop in energy from action-packed Aries. In a way it offers a chance to assess what really happened during the past solar month. After all, Sun in Aries transits can feel like a never-ending frat party sometimes. Sobering focus and a moment to find your car keys might be something this transit can provide.

Though determination feels like a common keyword given to Taurus, the theme of accumulation comes to mind this year. Whether via material resources or emotional fortitude, now feels like a good time to gather what’s needed. Separating from a square to Pluto in Capricorn, the Sun reflects whats seems like the end stages in a struggle for dominance. “Shady dealings” sums up Pluto in Capricorn’s darker intentions well, particularly within our governmental and corporate sectors. As the moon prepares to applying tension to the sun through its own square, examples of further emotional agitation wouldn’t be surprising to witness over the next couple of days.

Before slipping into the Void, the moon briefly forms an opposition to Pluto. As many await the final verdict of the Derek Chauvin trial, this aspect certainly seems to resonate with the waves of psychic tension in the atmosphere. It brings to mind the image of an emotionally pressurized game of tug of war; one in which the desire for domestic and emotional security (Moon in Cancer) gets overpowered by Pluto’s shady dealings. Ownership of one’s actions (and the emotions that inspired them) could be the best solution, but that would require ownership of both the good and the ugly.

Societal disarray aside, Sun’s transit through Taurus may be just what’s needed to feel like you’re not floating away. Tapping out of your social feeds and into Mother Nature can be as easy as leaving your phone home on your next nature walk. Do you need to snap a picture of that flower? Probably not. Can you appreciate its beauty and cherish it like a beautiful secret regardless? Absolutely.
